Tension as Prominent Political Party Suspends Chairman, Secretary, Gives Reason

  • The suspension of Social Democratic Party's Anambra chairman and national secretary has been approved by the party's National Working Committee
  • The announcement was contained in a letter signed by Shehu Musa Gabam, SDP's national secretary
  • Both executives have been accused by the SDP of anti-party activities less than 14 days to the state's governorship election

The national leadership of Social Democratic Party (SDP) has approved the suspension of Wester Okonkwo and Kay Anyachor, the chairman and secretary of the Anambra state chapter of the party respectively.

Daily Trust reports that the duo were suspended over allegations “anti-party activities” 13 days to the Anambra state governorship election.

Shehu Musa Gabam, SDP national secretary in a letter explained that both Okonkwo and Anyachor showed gross insubordination and lack of capacity to unite the party.

Gabam said the National Working Committee (NWC) had approved their suspension from office in line with articles 19.4 and 6 of the party’s constitution 2018 as amended, The Sun added.

The duo were directed to hand over to their deputies with immediate effect pending further investigations and decision of the party.

However, Okonkwo in reaction to the suspesnion, declared that he remains the authentic SDP state chairman in Anambra.

The embattled chairman insisted that he was elected through a state congress, adding that he can't be removed except by the people who elected him.

In his recent prophetic declaration, the man of God stated that “victory is surrounding” the YPP gubernatorial candidate, but warned that the politician must avoid being “technically” rigged out from the poll.

Meanwhile, Ifeanyi Ubah had said that the activities of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will terribly affect the poll if care was not taken.

Ubah said the insistence of IPOB that there would be no election in the state will mean a lot of trouble unless the proscribed group makes a U-turn on time.
