Despite being proposed to 15 times, Duni has rejected all advances after making a vow to stay celibate 35 years ago, The Mirror reports.

Why is Duni practising celibacy?

According to UK Express, Duni made a promise to become a "Burrnesha" as they're known in Albania, and is one of the last of her kind.

Being a Burrnesha means she is also committed to "living as a man" in the wilderness, as per ancient Balkan tradition.

Duni doesn't identify as transgender, but she wears masculine clothes and cuts her hair short to stay true to her oath.

Living in a mountain chalet, she only has her dog as company.

"When my father passed away my brother and sister were young; at that time a girl or a woman was always someone who was serving. So I had two options; to serve to the family of a husband or to [become a sworn vi*rgin and] serve my own family," she said.

She claimed she wanted to feel "free" and "different" and was able to adopt this lifestyle and remain unmarried due to her father being "open-minded" while growing up.

The main reason she took this route is because it allows women to become the so-called 'breadwinner' for the family - something she was keen to do.

The tradition in Albanian villages was that rather than a man approaching a woman for marriage, it would be his father consulting the woman's family, but Duni refused every time.

Many people tried to convince her, but it was her firm stand that allowed her to stick to her Burrnesha belief.
