Thea Chase, a two-year-old girl, had left home barefoot to take a walk with her dogs in the East of Wisconsin when she disappeared.

How little Thea went missing

CNN reports that Thea's mother, Brooke Chase, launched a frantic search when she went to check on her daughter, who was playing in the yard, but couldn't find her.

During the search, Brooke learnt that her daughter's uncle had told her to go back to the house since she was barefoot.

Thea replied in the affirmative, after which the uncle moved to other things, believing she had gone into the house to get shoes.

The mother panicked and, together with the brother-in-law and the family dogs, began to look for the young one frantically, but she was nowhere within the compound.

Search lasted 4 hours

After a 20 minute-search, Brooke not only called the husband but also informed the Michigan Police.

The authorities swung into action with drones, search-and-rescue and canine teams, as well as members of the close-knit community to help locate the child.

Michigan State Police Lt. Mark Giannunzio explained that since the area is heavily wooded, it was concluded that Thea was somewhere in the thicket.

After an extensive search that lasted nearly four hours, the authorities received a call informing them that Buddy, one of the family dogs, had been spotted three miles a way from home.

Thea was sleeping on dog

The informant was a relative who went in search of the girl using an all-terrain vehicle when he stumbled upon the dog, which kept barking as he drew closer.

To the rider’s surprise, Thea was fast asleep on Hartley, the smaller dog, with Buddy standing by.

“When Thea was returned home on the back of the ATV, the child was giggling and saying, “Hi mommy, like nothing happened,” the relieved mum added.

Apart from the outdoor temperature being 60 degrees when the toddler was found, she was determined to be fine after a medical evaluation.
