Man Who Was in Prison for 17 Years Released, Finds Wife Faithful Waiting, She Welcomes Him
- Joseph Njenga, who was imprisoned in 2007 over robbery with violence, finally experienced freedom a few days ago
- Despite being caught with stolen property, Njenga claimed innocence, attributing his misfortune to a bad circle of friends he had
- Upon release, Njenga reunited with his wife outside Embu Prisons, accompanied by a clergyman who led them in renewing their vows
There was a moment of joy and celebration at the Embu Prisons after a man who has been behind bars for 17 years finally tasted freedom for the first time in nearly two decades.
Joseph Njenga was arrested and imprisoned in 2007 over robbery with violence after he was found in possession of stolen property.
Speaking to Inooro TV, the former inmate who left the heavily guarded prison explained that though he was caught in possession of the stolen vehicle, he did not participate in the stealing.
He blamed his misfortune on the wrong circle of friends he was involved in.

"I was arrested for being in possession of the stolen property. I could not explain to the court how the vehicle ended up in my possession," he said, adding that, being a first offender, he did not know how to navigate the case.
Now, 17 years later, Njenga is ready to start a new life after finishing his sentence.
Reuniting with wife at Embu Prisons
As soon as he walked out the gate, he found his wife waiting for him with open arms. The couple locked each other in a long and warm embrace after years of not being with one another
Njenga's wife was in the company of a man of God who prayed for them as they renewed their vows to each other just outside the prison.
"I am so happy because my husband has been released from jail after 17 years. I have been waiting for him for all these years. I have persevered a lot, but now he is here," she said.
The woman, Joyce Njenga, said her faith in God kept her faithful to her husband for all those years.
The couple is now set to start their new life in Nyandarua County.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that A 69-year-old man regained his freedom 38 years after he was wrongly imprisoned.
Maurice Hastings was arrested in 1983 in connection with the murder of Roberta Wydermye, who was assaulted.
