A bride was left in shock when her father-in-law offered her a substantial sum of money in cash to leave his son.
According to The Mirror, the groom's family hoped their son would eventually find "someone better."
Groom's family didn't like bride
One of the guests who attended the controversial event stated that tensions were high between the bride's family, the groom's family, and the groom's mother.
"She didn't like the bride, thought she wasn't good enough for her son," the guest disclosed.
Despite the strained relationships between the families way before the wedding, the couple invited both sets of parents.
The turning point occurred during a dance between the bride and the groom's father, after which the bride abruptly left the dance floor.
Father-in-law offered bribe
She then revealed that the groom's father had made a shocking proposition; that she accepts a payout of $5,000 (N7,187,125) to leave their son.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the bride was lucky to find solace in her new husband's unwavering support.
He stood by her side, cutting ties with his judgmental parents to embark on a new chapter with his chosen life partner.
The couple has weathered the storm and recently celebrated three decades of marriage and raising two children together.
"They're still married 30 years later and have two kids, but I believe they are estranged from the groom's family for some reason," the guest concluded.
