Blind woman surprises young son
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that they say nothing is as strong as a mother's love and this saying could not be any truer as Rose Wanjiku defied all odds to appear at his son's Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment for moral support. The Kirinyaga woman who is also visually impaired did not have bus fare to travel to General Kassam Stadium in Gichugu and she, therefore, left her house at 5.30am to make in time for her Washington Murimi's training.
Speaking to reporters, Wanjiku said she had to be at the stadium to pray and cheer his son because his dream was to join KDF since way back. "When I arrived here (at the stadium) I just prayed to God because I want my son to join the KDF as this has been his dream and he will also help our family," she said. The loving mother said her husband abandoned her in 2013 when she lost her eyesight due to a brain tumour and she makes detergent to keep her family afloat.
Unfortunately, her son was not picked by the KDF after the long and rigorous training. In a paid-up advert on local dailies in January 2021, the KDF announced positions for the general service officer (GSO) cadets, specialist officers, general duty recruits, tradesmen and women. Successful candidates for the above shall be notified through the print media between February 18 and February 28.
