Zamfara Rescue Movement Defends Gov Lawal’s Leadership, Slams APC Over Minimum Wage Criticism
The Zamfara State Rescue Movement (ZSRM) has condemned the factional All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara for attacking Governor Dauda Lawal’s decision to implement the ₦70,000 minimum wage—an initiative that previous APC-led governments in the state failed to achieve.
In a strongly worded statement issued on March 30, 2025, ZSRM described the APC’s criticism as an act of desperation from a party still reeling from its 2023 governorship defeat. The group accused the opposition of being envious of Governor Lawal’s achievements, particularly in restoring economic stability and public safety in Zamfara after years of insecurity.

APC's Criticism is Baseless – ZSRM
ZSRM dismissed the claims made by Yusuf Idris Gusau, the factional APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, who alleged that the implementation of the minimum wage was a deceptive move to gain favor among civil servants.
"APC was right to call Governor Lawal an action governor, but wrong to describe his policies as deceitful," said Hon. Lawal Usman Idris, ZSRM Coordinator and former Senior Special Assistant to the immediate past governor of Zamfara.
"The previous APC administration under Bello Matawalle, now Minister of State for Defence, could not even pay the former ₦30,000 minimum wage. Instead, it reduced salaries to as low as ₦7,000 per month, leaving workers demoralized and impoverished. How then can they criticize a leader who is doing what they failed to do?" Idris added.
Governor Lawal’s Achievements Speak for Themselves
ZSRM highlighted some of Governor Lawal’s key accomplishments, including:
Clearing ₦13.6 billion in pension backlogs for retired civil servants.
Paying off four months of outstanding salaries owed to state workers.
Settling ₦1.8 billion in withheld entitlements for judicial officers and state legislators.
Revamping the state secretariat to create a better working environment for civil servants.
Restoring human capital development initiatives like workshops, retreats, and promotions.
"These are tangible results, not political gimmicks. Governor Lawal met a state struggling with insecurity, economic hardship, and unpaid workers, yet in less than two years, he has transformed Zamfara. The APC should focus on self-reform instead of misleading the public," Idris emphasized.

"No Vacancy in 2027" – ZSRM Declares
ZSRM reaffirmed its support for Governor Lawal’s leadership, declaring that there is no vacancy in the Zamfara State Government House in 2027.
"The people of Zamfara are satisfied with his leadership and will re-elect him for a second term. We urge him to remain focused on his vision and not be distracted by opposition propaganda," Idris stated.
The movement called on the APC to set aside partisan politics and support initiatives that benefit the people of Zamfara, warning that politics of bitterness has no place in the state’s future.
