Nigerian Policewoman Helps Young Man Shot by Thieves, Spends over N400k on his Hospital Bills, Photos Go Viral

  • A kindhearted policewoman CSP Celestina Nwankwo Kalu has been celebrated by Nigerians on social media for coming to the rescue of a young man who was at the point of death
  • The young man identified as Ajabor Friday was shot and left for dead by thieves on the 19th of September, 2019
  • Despite not having any prior relationship with Friday, CSP Celestina spent over N400k in footing his medical bills

Save for the timely intervention of a police officer, young Ajabor Friday would have passed away on the 19th of September, 2019.

Friday was shot and left for dead by thieves in the Ogudu area of Lagos. He was rejected by hospitals until CSP Celestina Nwankwo Kalu stepped into the picture.

Tracy Mcwary who shared the story on Facebook said Celestina threatened fire and brimstone before the young man was accepted and admitted into a hospital.

The policewoman spent her resources to save the man's life

The hospital however refused to go ahead with treatment unless money was paid.

It was reported that the kind officer rallied around and was able to get money, spending over N400k on the man's medical bills.

"...Officer Celestina has spent over N400,000 (four hundred thousand naira) that she did not have (she even had to borrow) to see young Friday through a major operation and he is now out of the ICU and stabilised."

The motivation behind her kind gesture

Tracy revealed that Celestina helped the man because she wouldn't have found peace if she hadn't.

According to Tracy, Celestina explained that the man had held her hand and begged her not to leave him stressing that he didn't want to die.

However, the CSP told Legit.ng's Victor Duru that her kind deed was motivated by a feeling of empathy. She imagined that it could be her son or relative in such a situation.

In her words:

"It might be my own son or relation, that’s what I always have at the back of my mind."

Ekwueme Prince Udochukwu said:

Ehigbochie Oluwatoyin Esther wrote:

"Wow! This woman police officer must be an ANGEL because such sacrificial gesture is not common with any regular Nigerian police officer with their give me, give me attitude."

Ikechukwu Godwin opined:

"I'm not surprised at all,,, because madam Celestina is not only a woman police with a different, she's also a woman with a Golden heart. I know her when she was PPRO delta state. She's always accessible at all time."

Policewoman pays the school fees of 19 SS3 students

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a kind policewoman had paid the school fees of 19 SS3 students.

A member of the Punch editorial board, Joel Nwokeoma, who disclosed this on LinkedIn said that the students are from Ezechma Senior Secondary School in Aniocha North local government in the state.

He further said that the police officer is from the Galilee Police State in Ute Ogbeje. Joel revealed that the young pupils were so joyful when they realised what she did.

In praising the woman’s gesture, he said:

“She is a great woman with heart of Gold. Join me in celebrating this amazing change agent from unusual quarters. You too can make a little difference in your little corner. The way to kill darkness is to light a little candle around you.”
