What informed your choice to make Nigerian businessman Tony Elumelu your role model?

I heard about Tony Elumelu last year (2020), November precisely, so I searched about him on the internet and I liked what I saw.

The attribute about him that stands out for me is the fact that he gives $100 million (N41,030,000.00) from his earnings to train entrepreneurs through the Tony Elumelu Foundation, thereby democratizing luck. It was mind-blowing discovering that.

How did you feel when he gave you that uncommon invite on LinkedIn?

I was in the class so I decided to check my notification on LinkedIn and how well the post was doing. Then I saw his comment and was so excited that I almost shouted in the class.

I was boiling in joy and honestly didn't expect he would respond to the post because at the time, I just wanted to clear the critics that came up

How long did you keep tagging him till you caught his attention? Did you at any point envisage he'd respond to your taggings?

The first time I tagged him was on March 22, his birthday, I celebrated it on my page. I think all tagged posts to the post of his response should be about 15 times or less.

What's the experience interacting with Tony Elumelu like?

When I first saw him, a rushing smile filled my face and I was like "finally, I met this man of valour" and I was indeed excited to meet him.

So when I was introducing myself (the picture in which I was with the mic) he said "oh, he is the one that did that, put your mask down let me see your face well", which I did, and we both smiled and laughed.

When we were about to take pictures he told me, "I read that post and it was wonderful", he then said we should do that pose again (picture with both our legs up).

What are the take-aways from that meeting with him for you?

At the mentorship session with TOE, I learnt that when you set a goal, it must be realistic and measurable.

It's always a step at a time, when you set a goal and you achieve it, don't be complacent. Keep setting and conquering until you conquer the world.

Tony Elumelu says he didn't meet the qualifications on his first job application

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a Nigerian billionaire had shared the experience from his first job application.

Elumelu revealed that despite not meeting the criteria for the job, he still sent in his application letter. He said it was by a dent of luck that the boss read his letter.

His post partly read:

"I believe in luck because I’m a product of it. When I started my career, I got a job I applied for despite not meeting the advertised criteria. That was luck at play, but I also believed that I was good enough to make a difference, so I offered myself. Luck was what made my boss at the time read my application letter..."
