Diaspora Remittances Exceed $90 Billion
Agbonlahor's call comes as Nigerians in the Diaspora are increasingly recognizing the importance of investing in Nigeria.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), recently revealed that remittances from Nigerians abroad have surpassed $90 billion in the past five years, demonstrating the significant impact of the Diaspora on the Nigerian economy.
She also noted that Nigerians living abroad spent approximately N60 billion during visits to the country last December.
Addressing Security Concerns
Addressing concerns about potential criminal activity disguised as investment, Agbonlahor advised government representatives and security agencies, saying:
"engage with these individuals regularly, beginning from the construction phase of proposed investment sites."
He emphasized that his investment in the hospitality sector was motivated by a desire to provide Nigerians, particularly those at the nearby Nigerian Law School, with "comfort, luxury, and security."
Agbonlahor, who also works in mental health and behavioural solutions, called on other Nigerians in the Diaspora to follow suit and invest back home in support of nation-building.
