Lagos Boat Regatta 2024 Set for December 21 at Five Cowries Creek

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has announced that the much-anticipated Lagos Boat Regatta 2024 will now take place on December 21, 2024, at the scenic Five Cowries Creek.

Originally scheduled for the Easter period, the event was rescheduled to provide a more expansive and inclusive experience for participants and spectators.

Speaking on the rescheduling, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to celebrating Lagos’ aquatic heritage. She stated,

“The postponement has given us the opportunity to enhance the programme and deliver a bigger, better, and more inclusive event.”

A Vibrant Display of Lagos’ Aquatic Culture

The Lagos Boat Regatta 2024 promises a dynamic celebration of Lagos’ aquatic culture, with highlights including:

Parade of Boats: Over 200 hand-decorated boats will showcase Lagos’ rich cultural diversity.

Local Fishing Communities: Cultural and economic significance of fishing communities will be highlighted.

Rowing Races: Thrilling competitions between participants from Lagos’ five IBILE divisions: Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe.
