BREAKING: Panic as Fire Guts Abuja Popular Karu Market

FCT, Abuja - The popular Karu Market in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is on fire. Traders at the market are still scrambling to salvage what they could.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. Officials of the FCT fire service are battling to put off the inferno.

According to The Punch, the fire has destroyed goods worth millions of naira. Firefighters are desperately trying to put out the fire.

Amiola Adebayo, the director of the FCT fire service, confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday, June 27. Adebayo added that the service's operatives had been deployed to the market.

How Abuja market caught fire

According to an eyewitness, the fire started about 7 pm on Thursday, June 27. Firefighters arrived almost immediately but couldn’t gain access to the market.

A shop owner, Hon. Jibreel Babangoshi, who was on the ground, described the situation as bad.

He said:

“The Karu market situation is bad. Only one fire truck was on the ground. When the fire started, they had no water. When they got water, they couldn’t gain access as shops had been constructed on every available space.

"They (firefighters) had to go through the back of the village. Reinforcement came from Area 10, but access remains a challenge.
“Number of shops, worth of goods destroyed not yet known. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
“Fire started from the Informal Sector section of the market”.

Soldier allegedly stabs mechanic to death in Abuja

Legit.ng earlier reported that a soldier had reportedly stabbed a mechanic identified as Yellow Bobo to death at the Kugbo mechanic village along the Keffi-Abuja road in Abuja.

The soldier was said to have fled the scene following the death of the mechanic, while his car was subsequently set ablaze by an angry mob.

The police were said to have taken over the place to restore peace as an investigation began.
