Electricity Tariff: Full List of Areas in Southwest States Enjoying 20-24hrs Power Supply

  • Not all areas in states across the federation are affected by the recent trend of unstable power supply
  • This is because such areas in states like Ogun, Osun, Kwara, and Oyo are under the Service Band A category
  • This, by implication, means that the areas enjoy nothing less than 20-24 hours of electricity supply daily

Amid the poor and unstable electricity supply in Nigeria generally, and the recent increase in tariffs by over 100%, there are areas in some states, especially in the southwest region, where the situation is much better.

These areas are in states like Ogun, Osun, Oyo and Kwara which are under the Service Band A category where citizens enjoy not less than 16-20 hours of power supply daily.

Why frequent power outages? Ikeja Electric opens up

A staff of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company who would prefer not to be named spoke recently with Legit.ng on the rampant power outages despite the new tariff hike and stated this is basically due to inadequate power generation and lack of adequate transmission equipment.

The staff admitted that some other areas experience more hours of electricity supply "because they are priority customers, adding that the narrative can be changed if there is "improvement in power generation and modernised equipment for transmission."

NLC, manufacturers, others react to NERC's increase electricity tariff increment

The decision by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to raise the electricity tariff for Band A consumers from the current N66 per kilowatt hour to N225, or a 240% increase, was criticised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), manufacturers, and other concerned stakeholders.

In a recent statement from Mr Musiliu Oseni, the executive vice chairman of NERC, the regulator, guaranteed that customers in Band B to E would not be affected by the proposed rate increase.
