PDP Youth Coalition Demands Resignation of FIRS Chairman Zaccheus Adedeji

The Coalition of Peoples Democratic Party Youths for Good Governance has called for the immediate resignation of the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Zaccheus Adedeji, accusing him of neglecting his responsibilities and degrading the institution.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday, the coordinator of the group, Ikemba Chidozie warned that Mr. Adedeji should step down if he cannot effectively manage the affairs of the FIRS.

They cited allegations of wasteful appointments, frequent international trips, and a lack of accountability under his leadership.

“If he chooses to remain in office, we demand that he halts the appointment of unqualified aides, restores dignity to the Service by respecting the career progression of long-serving staff, and ensures transparency in all FIRS operations,” Chidozie stated.

He further criticized Adedeji for frequent overseas trips, particularly to the United Kingdom, and urged him to focus on his responsibilities in Nigeria.

The coordinator also demanded the FIRS chairman renounce corruption and end alleged demands for kickbacks involving his family members and aides.

The coalition urged President Bola Tinubu to hold Mr. Adedeji accountable and launch a thorough investigation into allegations against him.

" This includes claims that Adedeji obstructed investigations into the recently retired Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
“Transparency and accountability in public service must remain the cornerstone of this administration’s commitment to good governance,” Chidozie emphasized.

The coalition accused Adedeji of prioritizing his political ambitions for the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial elections over his duties as FIRS chairman. They alleged that this focus has led to mismanagement, corruption, and a decline in the credibility of the revenue agency.

“The FIRS is a cornerstone of Nigeria’s revenue system, yet it has been brought to an unprecedented low under Mr. Adedeji’s leadership. His tenure has turned the agency into a marketplace of corruption, impunity, and blatant disregard for civil service rules,” the coalition stated.
