Abia 2027: Stop Dragging Deputy Speaker, Kalu into Your Political Schemes - Group

A youth group in Abia State, operating under the aegis of Progressives for Good Governance (PGG), has cautioned some politicians against using the name of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, for political schemes ahead of the 2027 governorship elections in the State.

The group expressed its disapproval of premature politicking, urging politicians to focus on governance and the fulfillment of campaign promises rather than fabricating rumors.

This warning comes in response to media reports speculating that Kalu is preparing to run for governor in 2027.

The GG dismissed these claims as baseless, emphasizing that the Deputy Speaker is currently committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents.

In a statement issued by its Coordinator, Comrade Ahanna Francis Onyema, the group stated: "It is far too early to begin discussions about the 2027 elections. Politicians should channel their energy toward providing good governance and uplifting the lives of Abians. Only those who fulfill their campaign promises will have a legitimate chance at contesting and winning in 2027."

The group strongly criticized the media report linking Kalu to the 2027 gubernatorial race, labeling it a deliberate act by mischief-makers aiming to distract the Deputy Speaker from his legislative responsibilities.

A source from the party in the State dismissed the report as “a baseless fabrication,” adding, “Rt. Hon. Kalu has not declared any intention to run for governor. He is focused on his legislative duties and strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State."

Speculations suggest that the report may have been orchestrated by a former governor known for his manipulative political tactics.

Meanwhile, Kalu’s supporters have urged the public to disregard the false narratives and rally behind the Deputy Speaker’s ongoing efforts to deliver on his mandate and promote the APC’s grassroots presence in Abia State.
