Nigeria Police authorities have launched a manhunt for Engineer Alexius Moye, a key witness wanted for questioning in connection with a fatal equipment failure at Halliburton's Free Trade Zone facility in Onne, Port Harcourt.
According to John Emine, DPO Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt, "The investigation centers around the death of Gerald Ogolo, a Halliburton employee, who lost his life on August 4, 2023, when lifting equipment allegedly malfunctioned during routine operations.”
Emine revealed that detectives are particularly interested in Moye's testimony, as he reportedly conducted an inspection of the equipment months before the incident.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that Moye, a former engineer at JC International, may hold crucial information about the certification process of the equipment, which was supplied by AP Lifting Gear Nigeria Limited.
According to Emine, investigators are especially keen to verify claims about a March 27, 2023 inspection, during which Moye allegedly identified critical defects.
Emine also stated that police are interested in a conversation Moye reportedly had with colleague Sifon Udi immediately following the tragic incident.
The case has drawn attention to the broader issue of industrial safety protocols in the oil and gas sector.
Emine emphasized that the investigation encompasses multiple angles, including the equipment certification process and subsequent decisions that led to its operational deployment.
"Police sources indicate that the investigation encompasses multiple angles, including the equipment certification process and subsequent decisions that led to its operational deployment."
Emine urged anyone with information regarding Moye's whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.
"Authorities emphasize that he is solely wanted for questioning as a material witness in the ongoing investigation," Emine stated.
“Anyone with information regarding Moye's whereabouts is urged to contact the nearest police station,” he added.
