Octa Global and Chess in Slums Africa host Christmas for rural children in Mushin, Lagos
In a heart-warming collaboration, Octa, a leading global Forex broker, joined forces with Chess In Slums Africa (CISA) to host a vibrant Christmas and end-of-year celebration for the children residing in the rural area of Mushin, Lagos, Nigeria, on 23 December 2023.
In Octa's first event of its kind, the talents of children from a community were nurtured through various intellect-focused activities—including a rewarding talent hunt enjoyed by nearly 200 kids. The event also featured other engaging activities like chess, mental maths, a spelling bee, basketball, and life-size board games, fostering joy and camaraderie. Each of the participants was rewarded with a gift bag that included things for school and playtime.
The event's highlight was announcing the winners of different competitions. Octa sponsored a full-year tuition scholarship for the first-place champions, covering their education fees throughout 2024. Additionally, the second and third-place winners received a commendable 50,000 naira and 20,000 naira cash prizes, respectively.
Tunde Onakoya, Nigerian chess master and Octa's former ambassador, graced the event, emphasising, ‘It's our great pleasure to give these children an experience of a lifetime. The season of Christmas is a season of love, where we share our love and time. Every child has incredible potential and can do so much. This was an avenue for these kids to have their voices heard and be rewarded. We hope to do this every year.’
