On Wednesday, December 20, the government announced a plan to cut the cost of transportation for interstate travelers by 50 per cent for the end-of-the-year celebration.

List of transport companies getting FG 50% slash

Bayo Onanuga, the president's special adviser on information and strategy, announced the development in a tweet. On Thursday morning, December 21, the presidential aide gave the update on the transport companies the government has partnered with.

According to the new list by Onanuga, the government's package was estimated to cover five million Nigerian travelers between December 21 and January 4, and at least five transport companies have been listed as beneficiaries.

The private transport companies are:

  1. God is Good (GIG)
  2. Chisco Transport
  3. Young Shall Grow
  4. God Bless Ezenwata
  5. Area Motor

List of available routes to get a 50% slash during Christmas

Also, the federal government released a list of 28 routes where travelers plying the routes in this Yuletide period will enjoy a 50% slash. According to the list from the presidency, the routes are listed below:

Lagos to Kano, Lagos to Abuja, Lagos to Kaduna-Zaria, Lagos to Jos, Lagos to Enugu, Lagos to Onitcha, Owerri, Aba, Abakaliki, Nsukka, Uyo, Port Harcourt.

Passengers plying the routes of Onitsha to Kano, and Onitsha to Lagos, Jos, Abuja, Sokoto, Gombe, and Zakibiam have also been listed to benefit from the government packages.

Others on the list are Port Harcourt to Owerri-Abba-Kano, Abba to Owerri-Abuja, Abba to Lagos, Abuja to Sokoto, Abuja to Lagos, Abuja to Onitsha, Owerri-Port Harcourt, Abuja to Enugu/Abakaliki, Abuja to Gombe and Abuja to Kano.

Temiloluwa Bamgbose, a public commentator, commended the development while speaking with Legit.ng, adding that the new government must double its efforts to make life easier for Nigerians.

"Train rides will be free": Tinubu announces cut in transportation fares

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu has announced a 50 per cent cut in transportation fares for inter-state travelers during the Christmas and Yuletide period.

According to the presidency, inter-state travelers who intend to use the train will also be paying no amount of money for the period.

Bayo Onanuga, the president's special adviser on information and strategy, disclosed that the package will end on Thursday, January 4.
