Fear As Defaulters of Income Tax in FCT Risk 3-Year Jail Term Under Wike

FCT, Abuja - Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has charged financial institutions to commence a strict implementation of the Personal Income Tax and the FCT Internal Revenue Service Act 2015 as part of efforts to boost revenue in the territory.
Following Wike's directive, banks, federal government ministries, departments and agencies, and FCT secretariats, departments, and agencies will henceforth demand and verify Tax Clearance Certificates (TCC) before providing services to individuals and corporate organisations in the capital city.
Wike urged the institutions to ensure strict compliance with the laws, particularly Section 85 of the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) and Section 31 of the FCT Internal Revenue Service Act 2015, Daily Trust reported.
Three years jail term for defaulters of income tax
Penalties ranging from N1000,000 fine to three years in jail as provided in the acts await defaulters as the new revenue generation exercise takes off, BusinessDay report added.

Mandate secretary for Economic Planning, Revenue Generation and Public Private Secretariat, Honourable Chinedum Elechi, made this known at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, October 23.
FCT Minister Wike reveals plans for Abuja national mosque
Legit.ng reported earlier that Wike assured that his administration would complete the ongoing rehabilitation of the Abuja national mosque.
The minister made this pledge during a visit to his office by a delegation from the Abuja National Mosque Management Board, led by its chairman, HRH Alh. Yahaya Abubakar, Etsu Nupe.
Wike-led FCDA to demolish national mosque?
In a related development, the national mosque, Abuja, on Friday, October 20, asked the Muslim Ummah to disregard the "campaign of calumny" against Wike.
The director of finance and administration of the national mosque, Ambassador Haliu Shuaib, and the mosque's Imam, Dr Muhammad Kabir Adam, addressed a press conference hosted by the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad.
The mosque debunked the news of the partial demolition.
