Bauchi - The police command in Bauchi state has begun a man-hunt for Yakubu Shehu, a member of the House of Representatives, in Bauchi Federal Constituency.

The command has placed a bounty of N1m on Honourable Shehu for allegedly committing murder, grievous hurt, and inciting disturbance of public peace.

This was confirmed by Ahmed Wakil, the Bauchi police spokesperson, on Tuesday, March 14.

“The police are seeking anyone with valid information that will lead to his arrest for interrogation and arraignment on criminal charges,” the bulletin reads.
“Anyone with information that could assist in his arrest should please contact 08151849417 or report at any nearest police station.”

Shehu was elected to the green chamber on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) but defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022, after which he picked the senatorial ticket on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The Yobe state high court had convicted Alhaji Idris Yahaya, the auditor general for local government, of fraud to the tune of N19.9 million.

This ruling of the court was read on Tuesday, March 14, by Justice Muhammad Lawu Lawan after Yahaya was arraigned by the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the EFCC, Yahaya received funds from the office of the Auditor General for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Yobe state, for the purchase of an official vehicle, a 2015 Toyota Corolla, and diverted part of the money to his personal use.

In the course of the trial, counsel for the EFCC, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, called four witnesses and tendered documents that were admitted in evidence.
