BREAKING: Several passengers feared dead as train, BRT bus collide in Lagos

  • A train and BRT Bus collided in the Ikeja area of Lagos and several passengers sustained injuries
  • According to report, two casualties have been recorded when a moving train rammed into a BRT bus at the PWD bus stop

In what can be described as a sad development, two persons have been confirmed killed and many casualties were recorded when a moving train rammed into a BRT bus at the PWD bus stop in the Ikeja area of the state on Thursday morning.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesman, Adebayo Taofiq confirmed the sad incident.

He said the bus was used to convey staff of the Lagos State Government when the accident happened.

Also, a spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos, Ibrahim Farinloye said, “Two adult females staff of the State Government dead and several injured evacuated.”

He said:

“The state government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state, has responded to the long pending question of who gave the military to order to shoot unarmed protesters in the Lekki area of the state during the EndSARS protest.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 50% reduction on all Lagos state public transport systems from Thursday, February 9, 2023.

This is part of the government's effort to cushion the effect that the fuel scarcity and naira shortage have had on Nigerians in recent weeks. According to the announcement contained in a series of tweets on the governor's official Twitter page, Lagosians will enjoy a slash in fares on all BRT buses, the LAGRIDE taxi scheme, First Mile and Last Mile buses, and the Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) through the Cowry Card system for seven days.

Sanwo-Olu added that even though 3 million Cowry cards are currently in use in Lagos, more will be made available in the coming days so that all passenger routes on buses, taxis and ferries will enjoy the 50% discount for the period.
