“We Need To Reconfigure the BVAS for the Next Round of Elections”, INEC Tells Court

  • The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked the Court of Appeal in Abuja to vary its orders retraining it from tampering with BVAS machines
  • INEC said it needed to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the next round of elections

A mesasage has been sent to the Presidential Election Petition Court. The message was sent by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The electoral umpire asked the court to vary the orders that were granted to the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to inspect materials used for the last presidential election.

INEC, in a motion on notice filed on March 4, is praying the court to vary the order which restrained it from tampering with materials used for the election, Guardian Newspaper reports.

The appellate court had on March 3 granted leave to Atiku and Obi to inspect election materials used by INEC in the conduct of the February 25 presidential election, Premium Times added.

In another report, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led other party bigwigs to stage protests at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The leaders of the PDP arrived at the Legacy House, the party's headquarters, at about 11 am on Monday, March 6, while they were joined by other party faithful.

At about 11:10 am, the protest march started with the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu and other national working committee members of the PDP.

Meanwhile, Hon Al-Hassan Ado Doguwa has been brought before the court for prosecution by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for an alleged connection murder.

It was gathered that three persons were murdered in his constituency on Saturday, February 25, during the general election.

These three individuals' deaths were linked to him due to the incident that ensued before their demise.
