BREAKING: INEC Releases Number of Accredited Party Agents in 176,974 Polling Units

  • INEC says a total of 1,574,301 polling units agents were nominated by the nation’s 18 registered political parties for the general election
  • A report from the commission showed that the opposition PDP has the highest number of polling unit agents – 176,588
  • Also, 68,057 would participate in the elections as collation agents in the registration area/ward, local government and state

Ahead of the forthcoming general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the number of approved party agents.

According to the electoral umpire in a report titled, “Summary of Polling Unit and Collation Centre agents submitted by political parties submitted for the general 2023”, 18 political parties registered 1,500,000 agents.

The party agents will work across the 176,974 polling units for the 2023 general elections. Nigeria has 176,846 polling units, but elections would only take place in 176,606 as 240 of the total figure have no registered voters, according to INEC.

The statistics of agents from the prominent parties show Peter Obi's LP has 134,874 agents, ADC has 96,034, Atiku’s PDP has 176,974 agents, Tinubu’s APC has 176,974 agents, and the other 14 parties have altogether 1,081,358.

All the political parties also nominated a total 68,057 collation agents and 27 agents for the National Collation Centre.

Peter Obi has the most polling unit agents in 2023 election

In another report, Peter Obi of Labour Party has technically become the presidential candidate with the most polling unit agents among other top contenders for the forthcoming presidential election.

This follows the publication of the summary of polling unit and collation centre agents submitted by political parties for the 2023 general election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the publication, Peter Obi’s Labour Party has 134,874 agents. while The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has 96,034. The ADC had collapsed its structure for the LP, and with this partnership, 230,908 agents are now working for Peter Obi.

APC chieftain says Atiku will be surprised by northeast

In another report, Deputy national publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Hon. Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has declared that Atiku Abubakar will be shocked when the result of the presidential election in the northeast is announced.

Atiku who is the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hails from the northeast region.

Ajaka thanked the state governor and people of Borno for coming out en-mass to support their son and the vice presidential candidate of the party, Sen. Kashim Shettima.
