Shocking Revelations as DSS Arrests Top ISWAP Commander Who Carried Out Attack in Kogi During Buhari's Visit

FCT, Abuja - The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested an ISWAP commander behind a bomb attack near the palace of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Okene, Kogi state.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the service spokesman, Peter Afunanya, on Wednesday, January 4.

The secret police identified the mastermind of the attack as Abdulmumin Ibrahim Otaru, aka Abu Mikdad.

The attack was carried out on Thursday, December 29, 2022, during President Muhammadu Buhari's visit to Kogi state to commission some projects.

Legit.ng gathers that Otaru was arrested on Tuesday, January 3, alongside one of his associates, Saidu Suleiman.

The terrorist commander reportedly sustained a gunshot injury on his left foot while attempting to escape. The DSS said he is currently receiving treatment at a health facility.

Other terrorist attacks Otaru have been involved in

The DSS said its investigations indicate that Otaru was a high commander of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and either coordinated or was involved in some dastardly operations.

Some of the operations include:

  • The attack on Nigeria Police Area Command, Eika-Ohizenyi, Okehi LGA of Kogi state on Friday, June 24, 2022, where a Police Inspector, Idris MUSA was killed and two (2) AK-47 rifles carted away
  • The attack on Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje Area Council of the FCT on Tuesday., July 5
  • The attack on West African Ceramics Ltd (WACL) in Ajaokuta LGA, Kogi in which three Indian expatriates were kidnapped on Friday, August 5, 2022.
  • Five persons including one Indian, two policemen and two drivers of the company were also killed in the attack while the kidnapped expatriates were later released
  • Otaru also reportedly operated terrorist cells in and around Kogi state and had staged several kidnap operations in Kogi and Ondo states.

Meanwhile, the DSS gave assurance that the suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted accordingly.

It called on Nigerians to support it and other law enforcement organisations with relevant information and all the necessary cooperation required to achieve a peaceful country.

2023 election: Finally, DSS apprehends plotters of attack on Imo INEC office

In another report, the DSS apprehended plotters of the attack on the headquarters of Imo state's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office.

Wilcox Idaminabo, the Imo state DSS director, made this known in Owerri on Wednesday, December 21, during a meeting with the state's electoral commissioner, Prof Sylvia Uchenna Agu.

He reiterated that the DSS will continue to intensify its services to ensure a total clampdown on unruly activities in the state in the build-up to the 2023 elections.
