Afikpo South LGA, Ebonyi state - Gunmen in the early hours of Sunday, January 1, 2023, killed the wife of Oyeku Chima, commander of the Ebube Agu security outfit in Afikpo South LGA of Ebonyi state.
Chris Anyanwu, the police spokesperson in the state, has confirmed the development to journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi capital, TheCable reported.
Anyanwu said the house of the LGA commander was also set ablaze.

“A report filed in by CSP Ayodele Umujose, the divisional police officer, Afikpo south division in the state, has it that the Ama-Etiti Amaoso Edda youth leader, Nnachi Mba, reported that at about 0230hrs on January 1, 2023, the house of the Afikpo south Ebube Agu commander, Oyeku Kalu Chima, located at Owutu Edda, was attacked.
“His house was set ablaze, while his wife, Chima, was killed by the attackers."

The police spokesman said those who perpetrated the dastardly act had not been established.
He, however, noted that the Ebube Agu commander alleged that it was one Okporie Ashango and his cohorts that did it.
Anyanwu said the commissioner of police in the state, CP Aliyu Garba, has directed an immediate investigation to unravel those behind the crimes.
The southeast governors had, in April 2021, established the Ebube Agu security outfit to tackle issues of insecurity in the zone.

In another report, the governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, on Tuesday, December 27, ordered the arrest of the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Stanley Okoro-Emegha and a party chieftain, Eni Chima, over the clash that led to the death of a police officer and two others.
The incident occurred following a battle of supremacy between the supporters of Okoro-Emegha and Chima on Monday, December 26.
The battle of supremacy between Okoro-Emegha and Chima - who is the House of Representatives candidate for Afikpo North/South federal constituency at Ekoli -Edda, Afikpo South LGA, also led to the destruction of property worth millions of naira including Okoro-Emegha’s house.
