BREAKING: Hoodlums Set Another Court on Fire in Southeast State

Owerri, Imo state - Suspected hoodlums on Sunday, December 18, razed a section of the Owerri Magistrate’s Court in Imo state.

The tragic incident came barely 24 hours after the Orlu High Court was also burnt by fleeing hoodlums.

The Punch cited a source as saying that the suspects came with explosives and targeted a section of the roof of the facility.

While the extent of the damage caused by the arson had not been ascertained, it was learnt that sensitive court materials and documents, including files, were burnt.

The source said:

“Hoodlums have razed part of the Owerri Magistrate’s Court located at Owerri-Orlu Road. It happened today ( Sunday). This is very unfortunate.”

Upon visiting the scene on Sunday afternoon, The Punch reported that smoke was oozing out from a part of the court building that was burnt.

Police confirm fire incident

The police spokesperson for the state command, Micheal Abattam, also confirmed the incident and disclosed that the fire had been put out.

He added that the command had begun an investigation with a view to arresting the culprits.

Legit.ng gathers that the Magistrate’s Court which is located at the heart of the state capital is housing the Owerri High Court.

In another report, Peter Obi reacted to the assassination of the Labour Party State House of Assembly Candidate for Onuimo LGA in Imo state, Hon. Christopher Eleghu.

In a tweet on Friday, December 16, Obi disclosed that Hon. Eleghu was not only murdered but his house and vehicle were also set ablaze. The former Anambra governor, condemning the development, stated that it violate the peace accord signed by political parties ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Obi also called on security agencies at state and federal levels to fish out those behind this trend and bring them to book.
