Raven Bank Turns Poultry Farmer Into Rich Man, Announces Him as Winner of Raven Bank Millionaire Program

Nigerian neobank, Raven Bank has announced Emmanuel Joseph Philip, a poultry farmer in Ajegunle, as the winner of its first-ever Raven Bank Millionaire program. Emmanuel, an electric electronics graduate of Heritage polytechnic, beat 5 others to clinch the prize money of N1 million.

Raven Bank Millionaire program is specially designed to discover and support the under-privilege in society. At Raven, its millionaire program is proof of the bank’s commitment to adopting a functional system of changing the status quo of people needing assistance.

The program uses a model that equips the winner with financial literacy to run his business. As part of this model, Raven Bank has partnered with Money Africa, Africa’s largest financial learning community, to train the winner with technical know-how through practical workshops.

Emmanuel Joseph Philip says that the money and training will change his life and how he does business: “I now know how to balance my books… I cannot believe that we can talk about how to keep your customers and how to have and maintain customers… I know how to manage my sales, and how to keep proper records.”

To arrive at the selection process, each nominee was carefully selected by people, including opinion leaders in their respective communities in Ajegunle, after which a video was shot of each of them in their business locations.

To avoid any room for bias, a five-man jury of the Raven Bank team met to determine who was qualified based on the criteria of the poverty metrics as stipulated by the World Bank. After a rigorous selection process, the videos of each competitor were uploaded on the app with a poll for users to vote.

Raven Bank’s Chief Marketing Officer, Jude Okoharen, speaking on the bank’s commitment to this program, says, “We believe that if you have an idea and you want to make it happen, you should be able to make it happen. That is why we birthed the Raven Bank Millionaire program, especially for those with little or no reach”.

Jude adds that this is the first of many activities that will come in the following months of the year.
