What was your occupation before joining Bolt, and when did you start driving on the platform?

I started driving with Bolt in October 2019. Before becoming a driver on Bolt, I was supplying gravel to builders and other customers on demand. I have done the business for about 10 years now. The gravel supply business affords me a lot of free time and I needed to supplement my income, so I decided to drive on Bolt.

Why did you choose to drive on Bolt when there are other ways to make money in Nigeria?

I choose to drive on Bolt because I also wanted to be my own boss. When you drive on Bolt, you automatically become your own boss. You decide to go online at your convenience and can take as many breaks as you wish.

You were one of the four winners of brand-new cars at the last Bolt Driver League competition. How did you learn about the driver league competition?

Bolt frequently communicates with all drivers on the platform via different channels. We get tips, bonuses, updates, and any necessary information that can help our welfare while using the platform. So, I knew about the competition from one of the emails Bolt sent to me.

How did it feel to win a brand-new car and what did that mean to you?

I was so excited! In fact, it was the happiest day of my life. Before winning the car, I didn’t have a car of my own. I was using my uncle's car to drive on Bolt. Although it was not on hired purchase, I still had to remit some money to him occasionally which affected my total earnings. With the new car from Bolt, I have returned my uncle’s car. The new car is very efficient. I have forgotten when last I went to the mechanic if not to just service the car. To top it all, I now make more money than before.

How has being a Bolt driver aided you financially and in other aspects of your life?

I have been able to increase my income and take care of my family. Now, I barely have problems paying all my bills, especially since I won the brand-new car which means a lot to me. Because the car is very efficient, I have been able to earn more money than I used to earn.

Can you tell us more about the requirements and guidelines as a Bolt driver?

First, the driver must not have any criminal records. Then they must hold a valid driver's license. All drivers are also mandated to attend drivers’ training for service quality and use of the Bolt driver application.

What did you do differently from the other competitors that helped you win?

I consistently met the target set for the competition which required us to maintain a rating of not less than 4.8, among others. That qualified me for the raffle draw which I eventually won.

Are there any commitments to Bolt regarding the car you won from the challenge?

Yes, but not monetary. I am only required to keep the car in good condition and ensure that the vehicle branding on the car is kept intact for a period of one year before total control is given to me.

Bolt recently opened the 2022 Driver’s League challenge. What advice do you have for drivers who want to enter the competition and potential or aspiring drivers who wish to drive with Bolt?

The initiative is a very good opportunity for all drivers on Bolt. I will advise them to enter the competition and abide by all terms and conditions to win the car, to be prayerful, and not to be involved in any fraudulent activities that will disqualify them. I will advise potential or aspiring drivers to get a car and start driving on Bolt immediately because it is very profitable. Being a Bolt driver is a good initiative. I have achieved many things with my earnings since driving on Bolt and even more since winning the car.
