Kuje Attack: 'It's lie, Osinachi's Husband Safe in Our Custody', Top Official Reacts to Peter's Alleged Escape

The Nigerian Correctional Service has debunked reports that Peter Nwachukwu, the husband to the late gospel singer Osinachi was among the inmates who escaped from the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre.

A statement by the national public relations officer, Umar Abubakar, a chief superintendent of corrections, described the report of Peter's alleged escape as fake.

Noting that the inmate is still in the safe custody of the service, Abubakar said the unfounded news was brewed by mischief makers and merely designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary disaffection among the populace.

"There is no doubt that the nation is passing through a challenging period, which, unfortunately, is having a spill-over effect on Custodial Centres.
"Therefore, if there is any time to display diligence and patriotism, it is certainly now rather than promoting baseless and unsubstantiated news."

Following the Tuesday, July 5, attack on the Kuje Custodial Centre, reports had spread on various social media platforms that Peter was among the inmates who escaped from the facility.

There were also fake reports that a suspended deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari, who is facing trial over his involvement with a drug cartel escaped from the Kuje facility.

The report which had it that Kyari escaped alongside other top former government officials was also debunked by Abubakar.

While some inmates managed to escape during the attack launched on the facility by members of ISWAP, Abubakar said that the NCS is putting all measures in place to recapture the escapee inmates.

He also confirmed that the Controller-General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa wishes to reassure the public of his unwavering resolve to improve public safety.

This, Abubakar said would be achieved through promoting safe and humane custody of offenders in custody.

He added:

"He (the CG) therefore solicits the support of well-meaning Nigerians towards actualizing this worthy course."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Peter Nwachukwu is on the verge of being sentenced to death.

Peter had been charged with murder by the federal government at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The suit was filed against Nwachukwu by the Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Ministry of Justice.

In her testimony, she revealed that Peter who is her in-law usually beat her daughter (victim) even while she was pregnant.
