Former APC Governor Arrested over Accountant-General’s N80 Billion Probe

FCT, Abuja - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari.
Yari's arrest was in connection with the anti-graft agency’s ongoing investigation of the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, according to Premium Times.
Legit.ng gathers that the former governor was arrested on Sunday, May 29, at his residence in Abuja days after he won the ruling APC’s ticket for Zamfara West senatorial election holding in 2023.

Recall that the AGF under criminal investigation, Idris, has been in the EFCC custody since May 16 facing investigators over allegations of corruption to the tune of N80 billion.

It was learned that investigators are working with the lead that he allegedly conspired with others to steal public funds which he was meant to safeguard as the accountant general.
Premium Times cited EFCC sources as confirming that Yari who is alleged to be one of his suspected accomplices has been arrested.
According to the sources, suspicious transactions between Idris and Yari were “in the area of 20 billion Naira”.

Ex- Governor Yari in 2021 was repeatedly held and questioned by the EFCC over allegations he criminally diverted billions in Zamfara’s funds kept in a bank.
He was governor of Zamfara state between 2007 and 2019.
Heavy shooting as EFCC operatives break into Okorocha’s home, arrest him
In another related development, operatives of the EFCC arrested and whisked Senator Rochas Okorocha away after close to one hour of sporadic shooting.
They broke into his Maitama, Abuja residence after laying siege to it for nine hours.
The operatives gained entrance into Okorocha’s sitting room after dispersing his supporters who were chanting solidarity songs to protest the siege.
