Blasphemy: Pastor Adeboye of RCCG Postpones Sokoto Crusade

Following the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel and the protest that followed it, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has postponed the Light Up Sokoto Crusade scheduled to hold physically in the North-West state from May 16 to 17.
Adeboye made this known in a post on his Facebook page on Monday, May 16.
He said the crusade will now hold virtually, and members of the church were enjoined to join via social media platforms to pray for Sokoto.
Recall that some Muslim youths stoned and burnt a 200-level Home Economics student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Deborah Yakubu, for alleged blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad.

The police arrested two suspects and protesters had on Saturday demanded their release.
The young demonstrators turned violent, vandalised, looted and burnt traders’ shops, churches and residential apartments perceived to be owned by Christians, even as the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, imposed a curfew on the state.
He wrote, “Postponed but God turned it around. We Trust In Our God’s Big Picture Plan!
“When God turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.
“We serve a God who specialises in using the impossible situation for His glory.
“If you are in doubt, look closely at the death and resurrection of Jesus! Devil thought he killed Him, but His death and resurrection resulted into life for many. He keeps turning it around for our good. It is in this might that we proceed!”

Meanwhile, Professor Ibrahim Abikan, the president of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria and a Lecturer, Department of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin has slammed the killers of Deborah Samuel, a victim of religious mob violence killed for alleged blasphemy in Sokoto state.
According to Abikan, the killing of the innocent girl is un Islamic.
He insisted that the killing is actually against the tenet of the teachings of any religion in the world. The professor consequently urged the government to do everything to ensure that justice is done.
