Residents Narrowly Escape Death as Another Building Collapses in Lagos

  • Another building located in the Ago Palace Way area of Lagos state collapsed on Saturday, May 7
  • Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said no casualty was recorded as residents of the building were able to escape before it collapsed
  • The emergency agency added that the collapsed structure had been handed over to the Lagos State Building Control Agency for further investigations

Ago Palace Way, Lagos state - A two-story building on Chris Igadi Street, in the Ago Palace Way area of Lagos State, collapsed on Saturday, May 7.

The Punch reported that people residing in the building vacated the premises immediately after the building gave a sign it wanted to collapse.

Legit.ng gathers that the permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said no casualty was recorded during the incident.

He added that the site of the collapsed structure had been handed over to the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

His words:

“The agency responded to the collapsed two-story building on Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, opposite Kilimanjaro/ AP filling station, around 3am this morning.
“On arrival, information gathered from the residents revealed that the building gave signs several hours before it collapsed. Fortunately, nobody was trapped as all the occupants evacuated the area when the signs began two hours before the collapse.
“A headcount of occupants was carried out to ensure no occupants is missing and the remains of the building were cordoned off. The operation was concluded around 5:23 am. The site will be handed over to LABSCA and Ministry of Physical Planning for further investigation.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that many residents were trapped when a three-storey building collapsed at 32 Ibadan Street in Ebute Metta area of Lagos state, on Sunday, May 1.

In a statement released on Sunday night, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received an alert about the collapsed building at about 9.48pm.

Sharing a video of the collapsed building on its Twitter page, it added that its officials rushed to the scene for rescue operations.
