BREAKING: Jonathan's Convoy Involved in Accident, Ex-President Escapes Death, Loses 2 Aides

FCT, Abuja - Former President Goodluck Jonathan was on Wednesday evening, April 6, involved in an auto crash in Abuja which claimed the lives of two of his aides, a report by Leadership has stated.

One of his aides, who confirmed the accident, said Jonathan was fine and okay and was said to be at home.

It was learnt that the accident occurred when the ECOWAS Special Envoy was on his way from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to his residence in Abuja.

Meanwhile, TheCable did not categorically report the deaths. The newspaper stated that two persons are feared to have died in the accident, but the identities of the deceased remain undetermined.

According to sources in Jonathan’s camp, the former president was still in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, as of Wednesday morning.

He was said to have travelled to Abuja for an official assignment.

FRSC confirms accident, gives update

Leadership in an updated report said the FRSC confirmed the death of two persons in the accident.

FRSC spokesperson, Bisi Kazeem, reportedly said two other aides were also hospitalised at the National hospital in Abuja after they sustained various degrees of injury.

The FRSC also said the former president was not injured as the car he was in was not part of the ones that crashed.

It was gathered that Jonathan was later spotted at the National Hospital after the incident where he went to ensure proper care for both the dead and the injured aides.

Former VP Atiku reacts

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the ugly incident.

He wrote on Twitter:

"This story comes across with a rude shock. We thank God for sparing the life of President @GEJonathan.
"But it is heart wrenching that he lost two of his aides to the auto accident."

Zuwaira Hassan: Ex Bauchi health commissioner dies in car accident

Previously, Legit.ng reported that Hajia Zuwaira Hassan, a former commissioner for health in Bauchi state, died in a ghastly motor accident.

Hassan died on Monday morning, November 23, 2020, at Zaranda village, about 36 kilometres away from Bauchi metropolis.

She was the departmental head of community medicine, college of medicine at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi state.
