Please Don’t Dismiss Romantic Soldier, Corp Member’s Family Begs Army

Kwara - Following the decision of the Nigerian Army to sanction a female soldier, Private Sofiyat Akinlabi, for accepting love proposal of a youth corp member at National Youth Service (NYSC) Corps, camp in Kwara state, the family of the corper has appealed to to the military authorities.

Punch reports that the family of the corper simply identified as Remi urged the Nigerian Army to tamper justice with mercy by not dismissing the romantic soldier.

According to the family member, Remi and Akinlabi’s friendship started in Abeokuta, Ogun State over three years ago before the latter joined the military.

The Nigerian Army had detained Akinlabi on December 14, 2021, when viral video clips showed her accepting the marriage proposal of Remi at the camp in Yikpata, Kwara State.

The lovebirds had shared a hug and kiss to the delight of other corpers at the Mammy market.

The director of Army public relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, told our correspondent that Akinlabi’s action amounted to taking advantage of her trainee, noting that she would be punished in line with extant military laws.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Nigerian Army said the female soldier who accepted a relationship proposal from a male corps member at the NYSC orientation camp in Kwara state would be penalised for violating military rules and regulations.

It was reported that the director of Army public relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, stated this on Sunday, December 19.

The Army spokesman, however, did not reveal the likely punishment the female soldier might get.
