1 Dead As Governorship Aspirant Survives Ghastly Road Accident

  • A governorship aspirant in Benue state, Terwase Orbunde, has been involved in a ghastly road accident

Tragedy struck on Monday, December 13, when the vehicle conveying a Benue state governorship aspirant, Terwase Orbunde, got involved in an accident with some travellers along Makurdi/Gboko Road.

The Punch reports that Orbunde, a former chief of staff to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state escaped death in the incident.

Orbunde had resigned from his appointment in September to actively pursue his governorship aspiration in the state.

It was gathered that Orbunde was returning from the decamping ceremony in Gboko around 5.00 pm when the accident occurred.

An eyewitness, Babs Usigbe, who ran into the accident said the Orbunde sustained a slight head injury.

Usigbe said he was on his way from Katsina-Ala to Gboko and then back to Makurdi when he ran into the accident.

Naija on Point reports that Usigbe said the governorship aspirant's vehicle suffered a mishap after a picnic commercial vehicle from Makurdi tried to overtake another automobile on the road.

Usigbe said:

"Instead of the driver of the vehicle returning to his lane, he faced the vehicle in which the governorship aspirant was, hitting it against a tree."
“Orbunde had a slight head injury but one of the passengers from the commercial vehicle died on the spot while eight other passengers were seriously injured."

He added that Orbunde, his driver and other injured people from the crash were immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

Speaking on the incident, the Benue state sector commander for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Yakubu Mohammed, said one person died in the accident.

Mohammed, however, said that the corps was yet to get full details of the incident.

He said:

“It is true there was an auto crash but am yet to get full details of the accident. However, I can confirm that one person died."

Benue lecturer shot dead by armed robbers

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a lecturer with the Benue State Polytechnic, Adah Echobu Chris, was on Sunday evening, December 5, shot dead.

Chris was reportedly killed by suspected armed robbers while returning to his base in Ugbokolo from Eke.

The development sparked protest among the youths as they demanded improved security around the area where the lecturer was gunned down.
