“At a very tender age, his legendary courage saw him playing decisive roles in the military and political history of Nigeria.
“His patriotism and commitment to the unity, stability, and greatness of our nation is outstanding.
“A man of his words and man of few words, Général Danjuma was a gallant soldier at war, an astute and visionary military leader who along with his colleagues helped transform the Nigerian Army into a truly professional force after the civil war.
“He is certainly one of the key actors who have helped in safeguarding the stability of Nigeria at critical moments in the past 50 years of our political development.
“He is perhaps the only soldier who more than once turned down the opportunity and persuasions from his colleagues to lead Nigeria as military Head of State and Commander in Chief.
“He is also reputed to be one of the guarantors of the Army’s resolve to return Nigeria to democratic rule after long stretches of military intervention in the politics of the nation.
“Out of uniform, he entered the stormy world of business and has recorded a huge success in building a corporate fortune in shipping, real estate, oil and gas, and sundry business ventures that have made him a true General in the corporate world!
“He is today one of the foremost philanthropists and donors to social causes, especially to health and educational institutions in Nigeria; and for the welfare of the less privileged!
“The TY foundation which manages his corporate social responsibility investment is one of the most impactful donors to the needy in Nigeria!
“He remains hands-on in business and continues to play influential roles in Nigeria’s political development, especially in finding solutions to the political, security, and economic challenges that have encumbered our country in recent years.
“As he turns 84 I wish him continued good health and strength to offer his vast wealth of experience to finding enduring solutions to our country’s current challenges and to help enhance Nigeria’s unity and stability as he has always done over the last 50 years.”
