Abuja Residents in Fear As Gunmen Invade Homes, Kill Housewife, Abduct Others

  • At least eight people have been abducted by some yet to be identified gunmen who invaded a community in the capital city of Nigeria
  • The gunmen were said to have also shot a housewife simply identified as Salamatu by her neighbours
  • According to residents, the gunmen operated in the Piri community intermittently for two days between Tuesday, December 7 and Wednesday, December 8

There has been fear across districts in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria following the invasion of gunmen into the Piri community in Kwali Area Council of Abuja.

Daily Trust reports that the gunmen shot and killed a housewife who was simply identified as Salamatu by residents of the community.

Also, eight other residents of the community were reportedly abducted by the gunmen in the attack which took place between Tuesday, December 7 and Wednesday, December 8.

It was gathered that the gunmen had first invaded two homes in the community and abducted two people on the first day amid gunshots.

A resident of the Piri community, Yakubu Saidu, said the kidnappers had come for a car dealer, Sadauna, but could not get to him.

Naija News reports that the gunmen further went ahead to abduct two of his brother on Tuesday, December 8, the night before returning on Wednesday, December 8, for another round of their criminal operation.

According to Saidu, it was during their return operation that Salamatu was killed by the gunmen.

A few more residents were said to have also been abducted on the second day of the gunmen's operation.

Saidu said that Salamatu, a senior wife of Yusuf Maigunwa, a yam dealer in the Kwali area council had tried to escape the incident through the back door when she was shot dead.

He said:

“The husband of the deceased woman was at home when the kidnappers came, but they couldn’t locate where he was hiding, as they whisked away from his second wife and two others inside the house."

He added that some Salamatu has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

Abuja residents in fear as Imam is found dead

The killing of an Abuja Islamic cleric has raised fear among residents of the Kubwa area of Nigeria's capital city.

Mallam Abdurasshid was found dead in an uncompleted building in Kubwa after he went into the bush to fetch some firewood.

The divisional police officer in the area, however, said the matter is yet to be reported to the Nigeria police for action.

A community in Abuja has been raided by policemen from the Zuba Division in the Federal Capital Territory.
