Tension as ISWAP Abducts Borno Government Officials While Supervising Road Construction
- ISWAP terrorists have reportedly struck again in Borno state, kidnapping some unnamed officials of the state government
- The officials were said to be supervising a road construction in Chibok local government area when the incident happened
- A top government official has allegedly confirmed the incident, saying it happened on Wednesday morning, December 1
Chibok LGA, Borno state - Not fewer than five officials of the Borno state government have been abducted by Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), according to Daily Trust.
The newspaper stated that the victims were supervising the construction of Chibok-Damboa road when they were forcefully taken away on Wednesday, December 1.
It was gathered that the incident occurred near Wovi, a remote village in Chibok local government area of the northeastern state.
An anonymous source was also cited in the report as saying that one of the abducted staff, a driver, escaped.

A top state official whose name was not revealed equally confirmed the incident.
The official was quoted to have said:
“Yes, it is so sad and we are worry about this latest developments.
“The abductions came as a shocker to us. I can confirm to you that they were abducted this morning.”
Borno deputy speaker opens up on how ISWAP fighters burnt his brother’s house
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the deputy speaker of Borno state House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, decried an attack on his brother's house by some insurgents.
Askira said some ISWAP fighters attacked his community and burnt his elder brother's house.
The lawmaker said that his brother's house located in Chan Chan Dana Community in Askira Uba local government area was completely razed by the insurgents on Wednesday, November 10.
Borno losing a proportion of its population to insurgency
In a related report, the governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Zulum, has said that the whereabouts of 10 per cent of the state's population is unknown.
Governor Zulum said this was part of the discussion he had with President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, August 24.
According to the governor, a large number of residents of the state have been lost within a period of 12 years.
