Osinbajo to Inaugurate New Delta Secretariat, IPP Project on November 29

  • A major project is already hugging the skylines of Asaba, the Delta state capital and will be inaugurated on Monday, November 29
  • The project will be one of the legacies of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who has been hailed for his exemplary performance
  • More importantly, the facility will be named after a respected traditional ruler in the state, Obi Professor Chike Edozien

Asaba - Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo would on Monday, November 29 inaugurate the newly completed multi-billion naira Delta secretariat complex and the 8.5 megawats Independent Power Project (IPP) in Asaba, the state capital.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this on Sunday, November 28 while speaking to journalists shortly after inspecting the facility in preparations for the inauguration.

He said that the secretariat complex named after the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Professor Chike Edozien was fully completed and ready for inauguration.

The governor said that the secretariat complex which sits on a 45,000 square meters was designed to accommodate all the ministries and their staff.

His words:

“I went round to check the route through which the vice president can come in for tomorrow's inauguration and am convinced that we are ready.
“The secretariat is a very complex one, sitting on 45,000 square meters, which is very huge and it's designed to contain all the ministries and their staff, except the ministry of works.
“It is so inter-connected with a lot of things to the point of having a banking hall, restaurants, creche and even a clinic that could actually serve as a mini-hospital.
“The new secretariat is internet enabled all through and it is powered along with other government offices, through an Independent Power Plant. That means we are having a 24 hours power supply.

“We also have conference rooms and all the ministries are interconnected. Plans are already in place for a full facility manager, with other sub managers taking charge of security, the cleanliness and the environmental sanitation.”

The governor also announced that the 8.5 megawatts Independent Power Project in the state capital would be inaugurated same day by the Vice President.

He said:

“The IPP will power all government offices, including the government house, to keep government activities un-interrupted.
“It will also enable us have the best of services and keep the workers comfortable.”

Ifeanyi Okowa Emerges Best Governor in Infrastructure Development

Recall that the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) on Thursday, October 14 decorated Okowa as the 2021 Best Performing Governor in Infrastructure Development in Nigeria, with a call on his colleagues to emulate him.

The governor was also inducted as an Honourary Fellow of the Institution at its 19th International Civil Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Asaba.

In his remarks at the occasion, Okowa charged engineers in the country to study constantly to update their skills in order to adapt to rising challenges in the practice of the profession.

Abubakar Lauds Okowa’s Contribution to Development in Delta

Meanwhile, former Head of State and chairman National Peace Committee, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has commended Governor Okowa for his contributions to the peace and development of Delta state.

Abubakar gave the commendation on Thursday, November 4 while addressing newsmen at Government House, Asaba, shortly after a courtesy call on the governor.

He also commended Deltans for sustaining the peace in Delta which, he noted, had enabled the governor to carry out developmental projects in the nooks and crannies of the state.
