Tears as Late Army General, 7 Others Killed by Terrorists are Laid to Rest, Photos, Show Burial Ceremony

  • Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkusu and other officers who met their untimely death on Saturday, November 13, have been buried
  • The ceremony for the late commander of 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok and seven other officers took place at Gibson Jalo Military Cantonment, Yola

Yola - It was a sad day for Nigeria as officers killed by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were buried on Friday, November 26, at a military cemetry in Yola, Adamawa state capital.

Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkusu, the commander of 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok was one of the eight patriots laid to rest.

Funeral rites for the late officers took place at the Central Mosque, prayers and service for others was held at St Stephen's Military Church (Prot) both at Gibson Jalo Military Cantonment.

This was made known in a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, director army public relations which was shared on Facebook.

President Muhammadu Buhari in his mesage at the burial ceremony through Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) expressed gratitude for the gallantry exhibited by the deceased in defence of the country.

While expressing sadness over their demise, Buhari prayed God to continue to condole their families and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state who personally attended the burial ceremony announced the donation of N10 million to the family of the late brigadier general and N17 million to the families of the other seven military personnel.

Fintiri also renamed the popular Lagos Street in Yola after the late Brig Gen Dzarma Zurkushu.

In a previous report by Legit.ng, a suspected group of terrorists Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Saturday, November 13, killed Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkushi, the commander of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok local government area of Borno state.

The terrorists killed the gallant officer, alongside three other soldiers, while on their way to reinforce troops at Bungulwa village, near Askira Uba local government area which came under series of attacks on Saturday and other days last week.

Sources revealed that the insurgents who were on a revenge mission following the killing of one of their top commanders at Kalangal village of Askira Uba have succeeded in attacking Nigerian troops in Askira Uba, Ngamdu, Buniyadi and different locations in the North East.
