Tension in Ondo As Gunmen Abduct School Principal, Other Key Staff

  • The cases of kidnapping across communities in various states of the country seem to have become the order of the day
  • State governments have been working with the police and other relevant security agencies to curb the incessant menace in the country
  • The recent of these criminal activities is the kidnap of a secondary school principal, his vice and three other staff of a school in Ondo state

Some gunmen on Thursday, November 25, invaded the Auga Community Grammar School in Ondo state, abducted the principal, Joshua Adeyemi, and his vice, Ifedayo Yesufu.

Also, three key staff of the school located along Auga-Ise Road in the Akoko northeast council area were among those abducted by the gunmen.

Vanguard reports that the three teachers who were abducted from the school are Oloyede Bukola, Adagunodo Funmilayo and Blessing Okeke.

Sources privy to the incident said the incident occurred while the principal and the other school staff travelled along Auga-Ise Road in a Blue Toyota Corolla.

The sources said that the vehicle owned by the principal was ambushed by the gunmen who whisked the victims away into the thick forest.

The Punch also reports that one of the victims, Blessing Okeke, was released after the abductors discovered she is pregnant.

Narrating her ordeal, Okeke said after they were ambushed the abductors took them into the forest where they trekked for hours before she was released.

Police deploy detectives to comb the forest area

In reaction to the incident, the divisional police officer for Ikare, Oladutoye Akinwan, said detectives have been deployed to comb the forest.

Akinwan said the police would ensure that the victims are safely rescued from their abductors.

He also noted that the vehicle which the principal and his colleagues travelled in have been recovered from the spot where it was abandoned by the kidnappers.

Six members of the same family were kidnapped in Kogi state

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that six members of the same family were abducted by some gunmen in a Lagbeta community in the Kogi local government area of Kogi state.

The victims were abducted while they were harvesting some seeds on their farm on Wednesday, November 24.

A member of the family who tried to make an escape during the incident who shot and killed by the gunmen.

Another kidnapping ordeal in Niger state

Also, travellers on the Beji-Manta Road in Shiroro local government area of Niger state were abducted by some gunmen on Thursday, November 25.

The travellers, mostly business people returning from the weekly market in Beji were whisked away into the bush by their abductors.

The state government has, however, assured that all efforts would be put in place to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
