I Watched My Brother Die, Aliko Dangote Tells Bola Tinubu

Kano - Alhaji Aliko Dangote has expressed how upsetting it was for him to watch his brother die, while on a life support machine.

Dangote made the comment when a former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, paid him a condolence visit on Friday, November 19 in his home state of Kano.

Aliko's brother, Sani, who was also the vice chairman of the Dangote Group of Company, died recently in the United States of America.

Dangote said:

“It is a very tough time for us. It's been very trying, especially for myself. Having a brother like him; once you lose him it is really very painful. He died in front of myself, our mother, and all his children.
“The most painful thing is when you are told that your brother will be passing on in about an hour. And you stand by watching as the machine is going down until it stopped working. It was very tormenting.
“I thank you all for all your prayers and your support. This will actually help us to reduce the pain that we are going through.”

Speaking during his visit, Tinubu stated that money cannot buy life and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

He called on the family to take heart and continue to pray for the repose of late Sani’s soul.

His words:

“What we have come to do is to join in prayers for you and the people of Kano state, for Nigeria and the entire family as a whole. May God give you the strength to bear the loss. It is a loss to all of us.
“May God grant you longer life, keep you in good health, keep the family in good health, give you peace of mind and the ability to accept the decree of God Almighty.”

Late Sani Dangote Was a Brother, Friend and Collaborator, Says Osinbajo

Similarly, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the late Alhaji Sani Dangote was not only a brother and friend but also a collaborator in some of the decisions taken by the Buhari administration.

Professor Osinbajo stated this on Wednesday, November 17 in Kano during a condolence visit to the families of Dangote and Dantata over the passing of their son, brother, husband, and father.

A statement from Osinbajo's spokesman, Laolu Akande, noted that the VP's stops in Kano state included family houses and the Emir's palace.

Senate President's Condolence Message to Dangote's Family

In a condolence message on Monday, November 15, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan described Sani Dangote as a great entrepreneur who brought his business ideas to impact positively on the Nigerian and African economy.

He said:

“His death is a great loss to Nigeria and Africa given the passion of the Dangote Group for the development of the country and continent.”

The Senate president also said that Dangote during his lifetime showed that it is possible to excel in the areas of manufacturing, agriculture, and oil services.
