Governor Ishaku Opens On How Helpless He Is Over Taraba Communities' Attacks

  • The governor of Taraba state has said that he is helpless over the growing attacks by some Cameroonian separatists in his state

With the growing attack in various communities in Taraba state, the state governor, Darius Ishaku, has said that he is helpless.

The attacks suspected to be carried out in these communities by some Cameroonian separatists popularly known as Ambazonia rebels have continued to stall activities around the border communities in the state.

Governor Ishaku expressing his frustration over the attacks on Channels Television's Politics Today monitored by Legit.ng said he could not have been able to stop or prevent the attack by the separatists.

According to the governor, he has no control over security agencies operating across the state.

Further explaining that he is not an island on the issue, Governor Ishaku said his colleagues in other states are also helpless over the continued insecurity experienced across the country.

He added that his administration would have done better than the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government should he have total control over the police and other security agencies in the state.

Governor Ishaku said:

“We all rely on the federal government when it comes to the military and the police. There is nothing a state governor can do, we rely on them. What else can I do? I have complained. I wish I knew this thing would happen yesterday."

“It is not only me that is helpless, all the governors in Nigeria are helpless. I have said it times without number, all the governors here are helpless, and that is why we are asking for state police. If we had state police, I would have asked state police to go there."

Cameroonian separatists attack Taraba communities

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that some of the Ambazonia separatists from Southern Cameroon invaded the Manga community in Takum local government area of Taraba state.

The separatists during the invasion killed the village head of the community, some residents and set many houses on fire.

Details of the invasion by the separatists were laid bare on the floor of the Red Chambers by Senator Emmanuel Bwacha who represents Taraba south senatorial district.

Suspected kidnappers fight over sharing of ransom

Also, a fight had ensued between some suspected kidnappers over who gets the lion share from a ransom collected from relatives of their victims.

The fight reportedly led to the death of three of the suspected kidnappers in the state.

A resident said the corpses of the suspected kidnappers shortly after their fight at the foot of a mountain in the Ardo Kola local government area.
