Breaking: Many Feared Dead in Early Morning Lagos Gas Explosion

The Nation is reporting that many residents Ojekunle street, Papa Ajao in Lagos are feared dead following an early morning gas explosion that rocked their area.

According to the news outlet, the explosion reportedly occurred around 8am.

Going further, it added that many bodies have been taken away from the scene with more feared trapped.

In another report, a survivor of the recent gas explosion in Lagos state has narrated his ordeal and provided a detailed account of how the horrible incident happened on Thursday night, June 17.

The survivor identified as Peter narrating how he narrowly escaped said he was resting in a car at OPIC plaza when he felt an unusual coldness of his feet.

Peter speaking exclusively to The Punch on Friday, June 18, claimed that by the time he came out of the car around 11 pm to observe the situation, he saw a gas-laden truck stationed in front of OPIC Plaza.

He went on to note that on seeing the truck he was paralyz*d with fear, adding that the gas had already filled the whole area.

While the gas was suffocating him, Peter explained that it was very difficult to navigate his way out of the environment.

Bodies recovered from Lagos tanker explosion scene

In another report by The Guardian, three bodies have been recovered from the scene of the explosion, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Ibrahim Farinloye, acting zonal coordinator, southwest zonal office, NEMA, confirming the development added that the bodies were recovered from the generator house of OPIC Plaza and the restaurant.

It was gathered that a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker exploded while in motion at about 10.32 p.m.

Gas tanker explodes in Lagos

A massive inferno from a gas tanker explosion along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja in Lagos, burnt a lot of vehicles on Thursday, June 17.

Eyewitnesses claimed that flames from the explosion were wind-borne to parts of the Ogun State Property Investment Company (OPIC) Plaza near a well-known hotel.

With the help of Lagos fire service personnel and officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire was quenched about two hours after the explosion.
