Anambra State Governor Declares Tuesday, November 16 Public Holiday, Gives Reason

Awka - Anambra state governor Willie Obiano has declared Tuesday, November 16, as a work-free day across the state.
This was contained in a statement on Monday, November 15, signed by the commissioner for information and public enlightenment, C Don Adinuba.
The Nation reports that the southeast government declared Tuesday as a public holiday to honour the first president of Nigeria, late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe who was born on November 16, 1904, in Zungeru, Niger state.
While acknowledging that this is the third consecutive year Anambra is observing the birthday anniversary of the Great Zik of Africa, Obiano noted that it will be right for President Muhammadu Buhari to declare November 16, a national holiday in his memory, Nigerian Tribune added.

The governor stressed that the late Owelle of Onitsha remains the most urbane, cosmopolitan and intellectually engaging of all Nigerian leaders.
Obiano said:
“He remains an unrivalled trailblazer, having established Nigeria’s first indigenous bank, African Continental Bank and Nigeria’s first indigenous university, University of Nigeria at Nsukka, among other monumental and far-sighted achievements.”
Anambra election: Nigerian governor declares public holiday
Legit.ng previously reported that Anambra declared Thursday, November 4, and Friday, November 5, as work-free days before the state governorship election.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Harry Udu, the state head of service, on Wednesday, November 3, in Awka, the state capital.
The decision approved by Governor Obiano is to enable residents to move to the locations where they are registered to cast their votes on Saturday, November 6.

Meanwhile, the winner of the recent Anambra governorship election, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has spoken on how his administration will work after he is sworn in as governor.
Soludo said there will be no waste of time as he and his cabinet members will hit the ground running from day one.
The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) noted that during his campaign, the governor of the state, Willie Obiano, claimed that he is supporting him based on the belief that he will do much better in office.
