“The "age-grade" (otú ọgbọ) system is an integral part of Igbo sociology. Their place in community development, socialisation, and general life adaptation cannot be overemphasized.
“In my local community, we have various age-grade groups, each working to outperform the other. What we learn from belonging to our age-grade are basically two-pronged - first is, respect for the age-grade ahead of you, and next is responsibility for the ones coming behind you.
“It is for this very reason that every woman who belonged to my late mother's age-grade assumed her position in the life of my siblings and I upon her demise.
“Mama, in the picture below, is among a few living members of my late mother's peers. She came around, snuggled her way through the teeming crowd just to give me a hug. While at this, she could not stop saying how proud Mgbafor would be at this moment in the great beyond.

“For Mama's sake and the future of those coming behind us, we cannot afford to fail.”
Soludo Becomes 6th Nigerian Governor With a Ph.D.
Meanwhile, Professor Soludo has written his name in gold in the history books of Nigeria as he joins a list of governors in the current political dispensation with a Ph.D.
The other governors with a Ph.D. are Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Professor Benedict Ayade of Cross River state.
Others are Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state and his Borno state counterpart, Professor Babagana Zulum.
Soludo Becomes Second Ex-CBN Governor to Emerge State Governor
In a related development, Professor Soludo is the second ex-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor to emerge as a state governor in the country.
The first was Clement Isong, former governor of Cross River state. Isong was CBN governor from 1967 to 1975. He later became the Cross River governor from 1979 to 1983.
Interestingly, it was Soludo who honoured Clement Isong by placing his portrait on the Nigerian N1000 note. Also, Soludo has a Ph.D. in Economics just like Isong did.
