Brigadier General Gunned Down as ISWAP Terrorists Ambush Soldiers in Borno

  • Troops going to Askira town to provide support for the soldiers battling ISWAP insurgents were reportedly ambushed
  • A Brigadier-General and three other soldiers were allegedly killed in the incident which occurred at Bulguma, very close to Askira
  • Meanwhile, an anonymous security source said fighter jets have bombarded the deadly terrorists in Askira town

Askira Uba LGA - A report by Daily Trust stated that an unnamed Brigadier-General has been shot dead in an ambush by fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno state.

The report further stated four other soldiers were allegedly killed in the incident which occurred at Bulguma, few kilometers from Askira town in Askira Uba local government area.

It was gathered that troops of 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, had mobilised to provide reinforcement in Askira, which was under attack.

An earlier report indicates the ISWAP insurgents stormed the town in a large convoy of gun trucks in the early hours of Saturday, November 13.

A local guard had said they stormed a military base and engaged soldiers in gunfire.

Troops ambushed on their way to support those in Askira

The troops were reportedly ambushed while on their way to provide support for the soldiers battling the insurgents.

An anonymous security source was quoted to have said:

“It’s a sad day for us at theatre of war; we lost Brigadier Commander (names withheld). The Brigade General and soldiers who were on their way to support our troops at Askira were ambushed and shot dead by ISWAP fighters. We are sad."

Meanwhile, the source said that fighter jets have bombarded the deadly groups but the details are not available.

Update: Nigerian Army confirms killing of brigadier-general

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkushu, the commander of 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok.

A statement by the Nigerian Army spokesman, Onyeama Nwachukwu, also confirmed that the terrorists killed the general, alongside three other soldiers, while on their way to reinforce troops at Bungulwa village, near Askira Uba.

Nwachukwu, however, said the troops successfully defended their location and destroyed ISWAP equipment during the battle.

Borno deputy speaker opens up on how ISWAP fighters burnt his brother’s house

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the deputy speaker of Borno state House of Assembly, Askira, decried an attack on his brother's house by some insurgents.

He said some ISWAP fighters attacked his community and burnt his elder brother's house. Abdullahi Askira said his late brother's house was burnt by some insurgents.

The lawmaker said that his brother's house located in Chan Chan Dana Community in Askira Uba local government area was completely razed by the insurgents on Wednesday, November 10.
