Lagos, Nigeria - The Lagos state government has debunked the speculations that a directive has been given for the demolition of the two high-rise buildings standing at the site of the 21-storey collapsed building in Ikoyi.
Gbenga Omotoso, the commissioner for information and strategy, made the clarification in a statement released on Wednesday, November 10.
The commissioner explained that the Panel of Inquiry instituted to establish issues surrounding the collapse of the building has continued to sit and an integrity test is yet to be conducted on the two remaining buildings.

"CONTRARY to speculations, no directive has been given for the demolition of the two high-rise buildings standing at the site of the 21-storey collapsed building in Ikoyi, Lagos.
"The Panel of Inquiry instituted to establish issues surrounding the collapse of the building has continued to sit and an integrity test is yet to be conducted on the buildings. It is, therefore, wrong to assert or speculate that the buildings will be demolished."
Nigerians react
Ademola Tobi said on Facebook:
"Someone was in my office today and he said he heard that LASG was about to demolish the other two structures, I said it's impossible.
"An integrity test would first be conducted and if the two structures are fit for habitation, then LASG has no ground to pull them down."
Funmi Sobiye-Shode said:
"If you like you demolish or don't demolish the remaining two buildings.... I can assure you that nobody will buy them or live there even for free. Eish!"
Judon Nwankwo said:

Meanwhile, William Nwachukwu, a 19-year-old boy, is one of the survivors of the Ikoyi building collapse that has so far cost more than 40 lives, including that of the builder Femi Osibona whose body was recently recovered under the rubble.
Narrating the real circumstances surrounding his escape, William said he used to sleep and have his bath in the building before the tragic incident.
The Imo indigene said on that fateful day, he was sleeping on the 4th floor when he was woken up by the building's foundation which shook vigorously.
