High Court Sentences Boko Haram Terrorist to Death by Hanging

  • A high court in Ekitoi state has found Abdulsalam Adinoyi, a member of the terrorist group, Boko Haram guilty

Ado Ekiti - Abdulsalam Adinoyi, a self-confessed member of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, has been sentenced to death by hanging.

Premium Times reports that Adinoyi was sentenced to death by Lekan Ogunmoye, a judge of Ekiti State High Court, in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, November 10.

The terrorist was charged and arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on armed robbery, murder, terrorism, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Ogunmoye, in his judgment, said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against the defendant who hails from Okene in Kogi state, Sahara Reporters added.

According to the news publication, between December 22, 2016, and March 20, 2017, Adinoyi while armed with a gun attacked and robbed Gana Jiya, a police sergeant, and other police officers at a checkpoint.

The suspect killed the police sergeant on the spot while the other officers sustained gun wounds. He was also accused of carting away two AK-47 assault rifles and launching a terrorist attack on the people of Ekiti and its environs,

Adinoyi confessed to being a member of Boko Haram and in possession of an AK-47. The judge said.

“The defendant is hereby found guilty as charged, he is accordingly sentenced to death by hanging in counts 1, 2, and 3. May Almighty God have mercy on his soul."

In a previous report by Legit.ng, an attempt by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists to attack the Forward Operating Base, Wulgo, in Borno was foiled by the Nigerian Army with support from Cameroonian Defence Force.

The army spokesman Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the incident in a Facebook post that was shared on the NA's page on Tuesday, October 19.

In the statement, Nwachukwu said four members of the ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists were killed during the failed infiltration attempt.
