Bandits Stage Ambush, Kill 7 Policemen in Northern State, Set Patrol Vehicle Ablaze

  • At least seven policemen were reportedly killed in Gusau LGA, Zamfara state on Monday evening, November 8

Gusau, LGA - Suspected bandits have reportedly killed at least seven policemen after staging an ambush near Zonai village in Magami district, Gusau local government area of Zamfara state.

Daily Trust cited residents as saying the policemen were returning from duty where they mounted, on Monday, November 8, a check point near Zonai village along Gusau-Magami-Dansadau road when the armed gang opened fire on the vehicle conveying them.

A resident simply identified as Halliru said:

“It is a very sad development especially for us in Magami town because the policemen had tremendously helped in stabilizing the horrific security situation in this axis.”

“In fact, their presence at that checkpoint had boosted the confidence of the travellers to ply that road. Dozens of travellers have been killed or kidnapped along the 50 km Gusau-Magami road. It is really sad and tragic."

The spokesperson of the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Awwal Usman Ruwandoruwa, said the remains of the slain officers were brought to the hospital around 8am on Tuesday.

Bandits burn operational vehicle

Also reporting the development, The Punch stated that an indigene of the area, Salisu Sani, said the incident occurred about 6pm on Monday.

Sani said:

“The bandits ambushed the police personnel, killed seven of them and set their operational vehicle ablaze.”

He added that the bandits who were in large number engaged the police operatives in a gun battle, as a result of which seven of the police personnel were killed on the spot.

Notorious bandit who burnt resident alive shot dead in Zamfara

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a notorious bandit and cattle rustling kingpin simply identified as Damina was shot dead in Zamfara state.

The slain bandit had a base in Kuyanbana forest in Dansadau Emirate of Maru local government area of the state.

Damina who had allegedly burnt a woman alive during one of his operations was killed in a clash with a group led by Dogo Gide, another bandits leader.
